The planet where the Enterprise-D was destroyed.
Veridian III is a lifeless planet in the Veridian system, the setting for the climax of Star Trek: Generations in 2371. The scientist Tolian Soran chose it because the Nexus, the energy ribbon he wanted to return to, would pass close by if its path were changed.
To alter the ribbon's course, Soran planned to fire a missile into the Veridian star and destroy it. The collapse of the star would also destroy the inhabited planet Veridian IV, home to millions of people. Picard went down to the planet to stop him but was drawn into the Nexus, where he found Kirk.
The two captains left the Nexus together, returning to Veridian III shortly before the launch. They stopped Soran, but Kirk was fatally injured in a fall and died on the planet, where Picard buried him. During the same events, the Enterprise-D's saucer section crash-landed on Veridian III after the ship's destruction.
