James Doohan

Actor — Montgomery Scott

Canadian actor who played chief engineer Montgomery Scott across The Original Series, The Animated Series, seven films and The Next Generation.

James Doohan (1920–2005) was a Canadian actor and a veteran of the Canadian Army in the Second World War, in which he landed in Normandy on D-Day. After the war he trained as an actor and became known for his skill with voices and accents.
Cast in the second pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before, Doohan created the Scottish accent of chief engineer Montgomery Scott, a character who became one of the most recognizable in the franchise. He played Scotty throughout the original series and in seven feature films, from The Motion Picture to Star Trek Generations, and voiced Scott and many other characters in The Animated Series.
In the Next Generation episode Relics (1992), Scotty is rescued from a transporter buffer after seventy-five years, a story built around Doohan's character meeting the crew of the Enterprise-D. He died in 2005.
