The NX-01 begins its mission when a Klingon crash-lands in Oklahoma and humans return him home.
The two-part pilot of Star Trek: Enterprise is set in 2151. A Klingon named Klaang crash-lands in an Oklahoma cornfield while fleeing genetically enhanced Suliban soldiers, and a farmer shoots him. Against Vulcan advice, Starfleet decides to return the wounded Klingon to his homeworld aboard the new warp-five starship Enterprise, launching its mission ahead of schedule under Captain Jonathan Archer.
T'Pol joins the crew as a Vulcan observer, and the voyage introduces the core crew, including Tucker, Reed, Sato, Mayweather and the Denobulan doctor Phlox. Archer learns that the Suliban Cabal is taking orders from a shadowy figure in the future, the first sign of the Temporal Cold War. The pilot was directed by James L. Conway and written by Rick Berman and Brannon Braga.
