Burnham's cadet roommate and a brilliant officer.
Sylvia Tilly is a bright, enthusiastic ensign who becomes one of the heart-and-soul members of the Discovery crew. Played by Mary Wiseman, she is introduced as Burnham's roommate, a cadet who has a talent for fast speech and big ideas and who dreams of becoming a captain.
Her growth over the series is remarkable. She forms close friendships with Burnham, Saru and the others, faces danger with surprising courage, and develops a deep connection to the ship's spore drive and the mycelial network. She finds new leadership responsibilities as the crew moves to the far future, and her sense of kindness helps keep the group together during bleak moments.
Tilly is cherished for her honesty and warmth. She proves that confidence can be built, and that an anxious, chatty and endlessly kind person can make an excellent officer.
