Human fugitive who joined Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century while searching for his lost mother, Anisha Mir.
Caleb Mir, played by Sandro Rosta, is a human cadet in the first new class at Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century. As a child he was separated from his mother, Anisha, after she became implicated in a crime committed by the pirate Nus Braka. Nahla Ake, then a Starfleet officer, sent Anisha to a rehabilitation camp and made Caleb a ward of the Federation, but he escaped and spent years on the run.
Fifteen years later, Caleb is a fugitive still searching for his mother. Ake, now chancellor of the academy and captain of the USS Athena, offers him a place as a cadet instead of prison, and promises to help him find Anisha. On the Athena he clashes with Braka, who claims that he helped Anisha escape from prison. Over the first season Caleb tracks her down, and after the confrontation with Braka the two are reunited.
Caleb is the lead character of Starfleet Academy. As an outsider who distrusts Starfleet, he lets the audience learn its values through his eyes, and his bond with Ake is central to the series.
