A Klingon leader who becomes Chancellor after the civil war.
Gowron is a Klingon politician and warrior who rises to become Chancellor of the Klingon High Council, and he appears in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He first appears when Jean-Luc Picard acts as arbiter of succession after the death of the previous Chancellor, and Picard helps him claim the position.
His tenure is marked by civil war with the House of Duras, and his friendship with Worf is tested more than once. In Deep Space Nine he leads the Klingon Empire into war against the Cardassians and later into the larger Dominion conflict, but his poor judgment and his need for glory create tension with his generals. Eventually Worf challenges him over his reckless leadership, and he is killed in single combat.
Gowron is remembered as a proud and cunning leader whose ambition both strengthened and endangered the empire.
