The illegitimate son of Duras whose claim to the Klingon chancellorship, backed by his aunts Lursa and B'Etor, sparked the Klingon Civil War.
Toral was the young, illegitimate son of Duras. After K'mpec's death and Duras's own killing, the Duras sisters Lursa and B'Etor put the boy forward as heir to the leadership of the High Council in opposition to Gowron. As Arbiter of Succession, Jean-Luc Picard ruled that Toral had not earned the right to lead, and the dispute erupted into civil war in Redemption.
The Duras faction was secretly supported by the Romulans, and when that support was exposed the rebellion collapsed. Gowron granted Worf the right to execute Toral, but Worf refused. Toral later resurfaced on Deep Space Nine in The Sword of Kahless, where he tried to seize the legendary blade.
