The Bortas was a Vor'cha-class attack cruiser and the flagship of Gowron after he became leader of the Klingon High Council. It carried him through the struggle against the House of Duras, whose claim to power was secretly backed by the Romulans.
When civil war broke out in Redemption, Gowron directed his campaign from the Bortas while Worf, who had resigned his Starfleet commission to fight for him, served in the fleet beside his brother Kurn. The war ended in Redemption, Part II after a Starfleet blockade exposed the Romulan supply lines and the Duras forces collapsed, leaving Gowron firmly in power.
