The USS Venture was a Galaxy-class starship, the same large explorer design as the Enterprise-D, serving Starfleet during the years of conflict with the Klingons and the Dominion.
In The Way of the Warrior, when Gowron launched a Klingon assault on Deep Space 9, the station held out with the help of the Defiant and its upgraded defenses. The Venture was among the Starfleet ships that arrived to reinforce the station, and with the Federation fleet on hand, Gowron called off the attack and withdrew his forces, leaving the Khitomer Accords in tatters.
