The 2259 Kelvin-timeline mission in which James T. Kirk saved Nibiru from a volcano but broke the Prime Directive and lost command of the Enterprise.
In the Kelvin timeline, in 2259, the USS Enterprise was surveying the planet Nibiru, whose primitive people were threatened by an erupting volcano. While Kirk and McCoy drew the natives away, Spock was lowered into the volcano to set off a device that would stop the eruption.
When Spock's shuttle failed, Kirk saved him by raising the Enterprise from its hiding place under the sea, where the natives saw it. Kirk hid this in his report, but Spock's honest account exposed him. Kirk lost command of the Enterprise, and Christopher Pike was given the ship back with Kirk as his first officer.
