The half-Lanthanite chancellor of the revived Starfleet Academy and captain of the USS Athena.
Nahla Ake is a former Starfleet captain of mixed Lanthanite and human heritage, played by Holly Hunter. In 3180, presiding over a hearing on the outpost Pikaru, she sentenced the pirate Nus Braka to a penal colony and Anisha Mir to rehabilitation, separating Anisha from her young son Caleb, who escaped with her badge. Ashamed of the ruling, she resigned from Starfleet and went to teach children on Bajor.
Fifteen years later Admiral Charles Vance recruited her as chancellor of the newly re-established Starfleet Academy, which also made her captain of its starship classroom, the USS Athena. She offered Caleb a place at the academy in exchange for her help finding his mother, and confided that her own son had died during the Burn. She also built a prickly rivalry with Commander Kelrec of the War College.
When Caleb went after Anisha outside Federation space, Ake took the Athena after him. Captured by Braka with Anisha, she faced their shared past and helped expose the truth about the destruction of his homeworld.
