Delta Quadrant species whose representative used telepathic power to trap Voyager's crew in vivid hallucinations drawn from their own minds.
The Botha claim a region of the Delta Quadrant and demanded that Voyager wait for permission before crossing it. Their representative gave the crew a chilly reception and arranged a rendezvous to decide whether the ship could pass.
In Persistence of Vision, the Bothan projected a telepathic field that filled the ship with hallucinations, starting with characters from Janeway's holonovel and then each crew member's loved ones, until most of the crew fell catatonic. Only Kes and the Doctor were unaffected, and Kes broke the alien's hold on the ship.
