M'Benga is a physician aboard the Enterprise who appears in the original series and becomes a central figure in Strange New Worlds. He is an expert in Vulcan physiology and a skilled doctor, calm and compassionate with patients.
In Strange New Worlds, he serves as chief medical officer under Captain Pike, working alongside nurse Christine Chapel. He carries a private secret: his young daughter has a serious illness, and he keeps her in transporter storage to preserve her life while he searches for a cure. He also has a past in the war with the Klingons, and he shares that history with a close friend. The series gives him moments of both warmth and moral struggle.
M'Benga's expanded role in the prequel series gives depth to a small character from the original run and highlights the burden carried by those who heal.
