The Enterprise hosts Dak'Rah, a Klingon general who defected to the Federation and claims to have stopped atrocities during the war's battle on J'Gal. Veterans aboard, including M'Benga, Chapel and Ortegas, are uneasy, since M'Benga and Chapel served at a field hospital on J'Gal and witnessed the brutality firsthand.
Dak'Rah invites M'Benga to join his peace campaign. M'Benga rejects him and reveals that it was Dak'Rah who ordered the attacks and M'Benga himself who killed the Klingon officers whose deaths Dak'Rah claimed. In a confrontation M'Benga kills Dak'Rah, and he tells Pike he did not plan it but has no regrets.
