A charismatic Vulcan, Sybok, hijacks the Enterprise-A to find God at the centre of the galaxy.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, released in 1989 and directed by William Shatner, begins with the crew on leave when a crisis erupts on the remote world of Nimbus III. A charismatic Vulcan named Sybok has taken hostages, and the Enterprise-A, which is still being repaired, is sent to deal with the situation. Kirk, Spock and McCoy are drawn into a larger mystery.
Sybok, who is Spock's half brother, takes over the ship and heads toward the center of the galaxy in search of a legendary paradise, believing that he can meet God. The story asks questions about faith, pain and what it means to be free of suffering, and it tests the friendship of the three main characters. When they arrive, they discover what is actually behind the barrier, and the crew has to fight to stay in control.
The film was the fifth of the original crew's adventures and was less successful than the others, and it is often seen as one of the weaker films. It is noted for its campfire scenes and for how it develops the trio of friends, and it was followed by one more adventure of the original crew.
