The four ensigns are summoned before an alien named Clar and questioned about a series of mysterious missions carried out by the senior officers.
Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford are brought before Clar, an alien who demands to know what the Cerritos's senior officers have been doing. Each ensign recounts a fragment: a botched standoff with the insectoid Clickets, Rutherford's patchy memory of stealing a Romulan Bird-of-Prey from a Vulcan museum, and Tendi stumbling into a secret mission to Romulus to retrieve a mysterious package.
When Clar doubts them, Boimler defends Starfleet's habit of making mistakes, invokes the crew's encounters with Q, and accuses Clar of running a drumhead trial. Clar then reveals that the gathering is a party to celebrate the senior officers' rescue of him from Romulus, and he only wanted to hear the story.
