The capital of the Romulan Star Empire, destroyed in 2387.
Romulus is the capital world of the Romulan Star Empire and the seat of its government, a planet whose cities are home to the Senate and the Praetor. It shares its star system with Remus, a twin world that is tidally locked and which is home to the Remans, the people whom the Romulans keep as an underclass.
The planet has long been the centre of Romulan politics, which is a world of secrecy and ambition, where the Tal Shiar watches over the loyalty of its citizens. Its society places great value on honour and on service to the state, and the capital reflects this with its grand halls and its monuments. For many years it was almost closed to outsiders.
Romulus features in many Next Generation episodes, including Unification, in which Picard and Data travel to the planet in secret. In the film Star Trek: Nemesis, Shinzon destroys the Romulan Senate in a coup. In the later period of the franchise, the planet is destroyed by a supernova, a catastrophe which is the starting point of Star Trek: Picard and which leaves its people scattered.
