The crew meets Klingon survivors who want to resume a warrior's life.
The Enterprise rescues three Klingon survivors from a damaged freighter, and Worf is torn between his duty to Starfleet and the old warrior ways, especially as the Klingons show interest in his heritage. The stranded warriors hope to return to a life of fighting rather than live in a peaceful empire that they feel has gone soft.
The hour is the first in-depth look at Klingon culture on The Next Generation, and it sets up much of Worf's long-running storyline about being a Klingon raised among humans. It is well regarded as one of the strongest early episodes, helping move the Klingons from the villains of the original series to uneasy allies. Its story of loyalty and honor continues in later seasons.
