A training exercise aboard a derelict ship becomes a hostage crisis.
Academy and War College cadets train together aboard the derelict USS Miyazaki, whose experimental singularity drive killed its crew a century earlier. Aliens called the Furies seize the ship and take the cadets hostage, and Vance and Ake turn to Nus Braka, who has fought the Furies before, for advice.
At Braka's suggestion, Vance pulls the USS Sargasso away from Starbase J-19 Alpha to join the rescue, but the Furies disable it. Tarima telepathically links with Caleb and destroys the Furies, leaving her comatose, and the Vulcan cadet B'Avi is killed. The crisis proves to be Braka's ploy to lure the Sargasso away so he can raid the starbase. The episode was directed by Larry Teng and written by Kenneth Lin and Kiley Rossetter.
