Someone is murdering the members of Kira's old resistance cell one by one, and the pregnant Kira may be the final target.
Kira, pregnant as surrogate for the O'Briens' child, learns that Latha Mabrin, a member of her old resistance cell, has been murdered, and then receives a message in a distorted voice saying that's one. More killings follow, including Fala and Mobara, each announced the same way. Kira's former comrades Furel and Lupaza come to protect her, and both die in an explosion in the O'Briens' quarters.
Taking a list of suspects from Odo, Kira finds the killer, Silaran Prin, a Cardassian civilian disfigured in a resistance bombing. He holds her captive and argues that she killed indiscriminately while he punishes only the guilty, then prepares to take the baby before killing her. Knowing her pregnancy herbs weaken sedatives, Kira feigns sleep and kills him. This fifth-season episode looks at Kira's past and the moral questions of the occupation.
