Tuvok trains Maquis crew members in Starfleet protocol.
Tuvok attempts to train a group of Maquis crew members in Starfleet procedures, but his rigid methods clash with their independent attitudes, and tension on the ship rises. At the same time a problem with Voyager's bio-neural gel packs begins to affect the ship's systems.
The episode closes out the shortened first season by returning to the show's founding conflict, the difficulty of merging two very different crews. It shows Tuvok adapting his approach, and it affirms that Janeway intended the crew to function as one team, regardless of where each member began.
