Lord Burleigh is a character in a Victorian Gothic holonovel that Kathryn Janeway ran on Voyager's holodeck to relax. Janeway played Lucille Davenport, a governess hired to care for his children, Henry and Beatrice, in a gloomy country house hiding secrets, including a forbidden fourth floor. Michael Cumpsty played the role.
The holonovel first appeared in Cathexis and returned in Learning Curve, with Burleigh drawn to his new governess despite his secretive and often brooding manner.
In Persistence of Vision, the story came back to haunt Janeway when characters from it began appearing to her outside the holodeck. These hallucinations turned out to be part of a telepathic attack by the Botha, who used the crew's own thoughts and desires against them.
