Neelix confronts the scientist whose weapon destroyed his home.
Dr. Ma'Bor Jetrel, a Haakonian scientist, comes aboard Voyager asking to see Neelix. Fifteen years earlier, during the war between the Haakonians and the Talaxians, Jetrel created the Metreon Cascade, a weapon that struck the Talaxian moon Rinax and killed more than 300,000 people, among them Neelix's family. Jetrel claims Neelix may have contracted a fatal blood disease, metremia, and persuades Janeway to take him to Rinax.
The medical story is a pretext. Jetrel, who is himself dying, hopes to use Voyager's transporter to reassemble the victims of his weapon. The attempt fails, and before Jetrel dies, Neelix, who has hidden secrets of his own about the war, offers him forgiveness.
