Dax meets her former spouse's new host and faces a Trill taboo.
A Trill science team arrives led by Lenara Kahn, who in a previous life was married to one of Dax's past hosts. Trill law forbids reassociation, that is, reviving relationships from past lives, under pain of exile, and Lenara's brother Bejal is wary. Working together, they create an artificial wormhole, and their old feelings return.
They kiss, and Jadzia comes to feel the relationship is worth exile, especially after an experiment goes wrong and she crosses a plasma fire to save Lenara. Lenara, however, decides against resuming their relationship and leaves with the science team.
