Enterprise meets Vulcans who embrace their emotions, and T'Pol agrees to a mind meld with one of them that leaves her disturbed.
Enterprise meets a Vulcan ship whose crew belong to a group trying to live with their emotions rather than suppress them. Their leader is friendly, and they offer to share their experience while repairs are carried out.
T'Pol is curious about their path, and a Vulcan named Tolaris persuades her to try a mind meld, a practice then frowned upon by most Vulcans. The meld turns invasive and leaves her shaken, and Archer confronts Tolaris. Meanwhile, Tucker helps a younger Vulcan reconnect with his estranged father. The meld would have consequences later in the season. The episode was directed by Rob Hedden, with a teleplay by Phyllis Strong and Mike Sussman.
