Archer is asked to mediate a cease-fire between Andorians and Vulcans fighting over the disputed planet Weytahn.
The Andorians and Vulcans are fighting over a frontier world the Andorians call Weytahn and the Vulcans call Paan Mokar, after Shran's forces reoccupied a settlement in breach of an earlier treaty. With three Vulcans held hostage, Shran will negotiate only through Archer, whom he has trusted since The Andorian Incident, and a skeptical Ambassador Soval accepts the arrangement. Archer persuades Shran to release one hostage as a sign of good faith.
Archer, T'Pol and Soval head for the surface, but their shuttlepod is shot down and Soval is later wounded, and each side suspects the other of sabotage. In orbit, Tucker places Enterprise between the Andorian and Vulcan ships to keep them from firing. Archer traces the attacks to rogue Andorians and captures Shran's lieutenant Tarah, who admits her role. The two sides agree to a cease-fire and further talks, a step toward cooperation between the founding powers. Chris Black wrote this second-season episode, directed by David Straiton.
