Archer and T'Pol reach the Syrrannites, where Archer learns he carries Surak's katra, while V'Las prepares to strike.
Archer and T'Pol are held and questioned by the Syrrannites, a dissident group in the Forge, and T'Pol argues with her mother, T'Les, who is a member. Archer begins seeing visions of an ancient Vulcan, and the group concludes he carries the katra of Surak. An attempt to transfer it to their leader, T'Pau, fails, and Surak urges Archer to find the Kir'Shara.
On Vulcan, Ambassador Soval is dismissed for using a mind meld, and Administrator V'Las prepares to destroy the Syrrannites. Tucker refuses Starfleet's order to leave orbit until Vulcan warships attack. Archer recovers the relic during a bombardment in which T'Les is killed, and Soval warns of a planned Vulcan attack on Andoria. The episode was directed by Roxann Dawson and written by Andre Bormanis.
