Pike claims a time crystal at the Klingon monastery on Boreth after seeing his own future, while Burnham and Spock find a ship overrun by Control.
A new signal appears above Boreth, the Klingon monastery world, and Pike goes down to obtain one of its time crystals. He meets Tenavik, the grown son of Tyler and L'Rell, who warns him that taking a crystal binds him to the future it shows. Pike sees himself badly injured and disabled, the fate he meets in the original series, and takes the crystal anyway.
Burnham and Spock board a Section 31 ship and find its crew dead except Kamran Gant, who is controlled by Control and tries to infect Burnham with nanites. When Section 31's fleet arrives, Pike orders Discovery destroyed to keep the sphere data from Control. Boreth first appeared in The Next Generation. Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt wrote the episode.
