An ancient device on Apergos gives Commander Ransom godlike powers, while Tendi worries that Rutherford's personality has changed since he lost his memory.
The second season opens with the Cerritos making second contact with the planet Apergos. While power-washing a structure, Mariner accidentally activates an ancient defense system that grants Commander Ransom godlike powers. Ransom soon grows power-mad and conjures a giant floating head that attacks the ship, until Mariner strips him of his abilities with a well-placed kick to his body on the surface.
On the ship, Tendi fears that Rutherford is not the same person since his memory loss and new implant, and her attempts to examine him drive him away before she accepts him as he is. Boimler, meanwhile, is struggling to keep up aboard the USS Titan under Captain Riker.
