Apergos is a planet visited for second contact, where an ancient defense system gives Commander Ransom godlike powers.
Apergos is a planet whose people had recently made first contact with Starfleet when the USS Cerritos arrives for second contact in Strange Energies. While power-washing local buildings, Mariner accidentally activates an ancient defense system that attacks her.
The system fires a beam of energy that strikes Commander Jack Ransom and gives him godlike abilities. Ransom goes mad with power, creating a giant floating head that attacks the Cerritos, until Mariner defeats his headless body on the ground and his powers fade away.
