With Captain Freeman on trial for bombing the Pakled homeworld, Mariner leads her friends in sneaking aboard the impounded Cerritos to find evidence of her innocence.
Captain Freeman goes on trial accused of bombing the Pakled homeworld. Ignoring her father Alonzo's advice to trust the process, Mariner recruits Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford to slip aboard the impounded Cerritos and look for proof that her mother was framed. They reach the ship by commandeering a ride vessel from a Zefram Cochrane themed amusement park.
Finding nothing, Mariner tries to fly the Cerritos to Earth, and Starfleet security catches the group. Freeman and the senior officers come to their rescue and reveal that an undercover operation has shown the Pakleds framed her in order to obtain a better planet. Freeman then places Mariner under Commander Ransom's supervision, and he is keen to find grounds to get rid of her.
