Lieutenant Barniss Frex runs a remote Starfleet relay station where the Protostar's hidden virus is unwittingly triggered.
Barniss Frex is a Starfleet lieutenant who staffs a remote communications relay station in the Beta Quadrant. In Asylum, the Protostar crew seek refuge there, and Frex's scans reveal that Murf is a Mellanoid slime worm and that information on Dal's species is restricted.
Gwyn races to restore her memories of the Diviner's plan, but too late: Frex connects to the Protostar's systems and activates the hidden virus. The station destroys itself and Frex escapes. In Crossroads, Admiral Janeway seeks him at a busy transportation hub. He was voiced by Eric Bauza.
