Ash Tyler is a Starfleet security officer who appears in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. He arrives as a former prisoner of the Klingons, a survivor who seems damaged by captivity, and he swiftly becomes close to Michael Burnham as a trusted friend and eventual romantic partner.
The truth about him is a major twist of the season. Ash is revealed to be the product of a Klingon surgical deception, and his body and mind carry the identity of the Klingon operative Voq. This leads to a painful struggle over who he is, and to betrayal and violence that put the crew in danger. In the end he must reckon with both identities, and he seeks to make peace with what he has done.
