The Baneans are a Delta Quadrant species engaged in a war with the neighboring Numiri. Their justice system sentences a murderer to experience the victim's last memories, imprinted in the convict's mind and replayed at regular intervals.
In Ex Post Facto, Paris was convicted of killing the scientist Tolen Ren and made to relive Ren's death every fourteen hours. Tuvok investigated with a mind meld and proved that the killing was part of a scheme to pass Banean weapons secrets to the Numiri, using the implanted memory itself to carry the data, clearing Paris.
