Rayner faces a hearing over his conduct while Burnham and Saru search a burial world for traces of lost Progenitor technology.
President Rillak holds a disciplinary hearing for Rayner, whose reckless style she considers unsuited to peacetime Starfleet. Using images of the journal recovered from Fred's memory, Burnham takes Discovery to the burial world Lyrek. She and Saru, on his last mission before becoming an ambassador so he can be near his fiancée T'Rina, disable its automated defenses.
Book, posing as a fellow courier, contacts Moll and learns she is the daughter of his mentor. On Lyrek, Burnham and Saru find a map fragment showing the next clue is on Trill, not Betazed as the couriers believe. Learning that Rayner has been asked to resign, Burnham offers him a second chance as her first officer. Alan McElroy wrote the episode.
