Burnham and Book travel to Trill, where a symbiont's former host guides them while Culber has an unsettling experience.
Burnham travels to Trill with Book, Culber and Adira, who meets Gray and agrees with him to part ways as their lives head in different directions. They meet Bix, current host of a symbiont whose former host Jinaal was one of the 24th-century scientists, and Jinaal's consciousness is temporarily placed in Culber's body.
Jinaal guides Burnham and Book into the wilderness, where creatures attack until Book uses his empathic gift to calm them, realizing they are guarding a nest. Satisfied the pair are worthy, Jinaal explains that the scientists scattered the map so only a worthy seeker could find the technology, and hands over his fragment and the next coordinates. The experience leaves Culber deeply shaken. Andi Armaganian directed.
