An android who identified the Romulan puzzle box stolen by Moll and L'ak and was killed by them on Q'mau.
Fred is an android who appears in Red Directive. After the couriers Moll and L'ak steal an object from an 800-year-old Romulan science vessel, they meet Fred on the planet Q'mau, where he reveals that the object is a Romulan puzzle box holding a journal.
Moll and L'ak kill Fred and flee. In Under the Twin Moons, Discovery's crew retrieves images of the journal from Fred's memory, which lead them to the burial planet Lyrek and the first clue in the hunt for the Progenitors' technology.
