Captain Pike returns to command the Enterprise to rescue Number One, who has gone missing during a first-contact mission to Kiley 279.
Admiral Robert April calls Captain Christopher Pike back from leave when his first officer, Una Chin-Riley, known as Number One, vanishes during a first-contact mission. Pike is reluctant, haunted by a vision of his own future injury, and he confides in Spock, who has recently become engaged to T'Pring.
The Enterprise reaches Kiley 279, a world close to civil war whose people have built a weapon based on warp technology they glimpsed during the Discovery's battle. Pike's crew rescues Number One and breaks General Order One to stop the weapon being used. Starfleet lets the violation pass and formalizes the principle as the Prime Directive, and Pike accepts command for a five-year mission. Akiva Goldsman directed the premiere.
