Kiley 279 is the planet visited in Strange New Worlds. Its society resembles 21st-century Earth and stands on the brink of civil war, and its people have reverse-engineered a weapon from starship warp drives after witnessing the battle fought by the USS Discovery nearby.
Number One goes missing during a first contact mission there, and Christopher Pike leads the rescue. Pike breaks General Order One by interfering to persuade the Kiley not to use the weapon, after which Starfleet renames the rule the Prime Directive.
