The crew finds a world of humans in an American West.
In the Delphic Expanse, Enterprise finds a planet where about six thousand humans live like American frontier settlers of the 1860s. Archer, Tucker and T'Pol go down in period dress, and Archer intervenes when Deputy Bennings humiliates a Skagaran in a saloon, drawing suspicion from Sheriff MacReady. Records from a 300-year-old wrecked spacecraft reveal that the Skagarans abducted a wagon train from Earth as slave labor, and that the humans later overthrew them and turned the Skagarans into an oppressed underclass.
Archer befriends Bethany, a teacher secretly educating Skagaran children, and when Bennings shoots her, Archer beams her to Enterprise, where Phlox finds she is part Skagaran. Archer returns in uniform to tell MacReady the truth, Bennings shoots the sheriff, and Archer subdues him in a fight. Bethany goes back with a PADD of Earth history, and the town's children begin learning together. David A. Goodman wrote this third-season episode amid the Xindi arc.
