The Doctor is sent to an Alpha Quadrant ship through a distant array.
Seven of Nine discovers a vast alien sensor network that reaches a Federation vessel in the Alpha Quadrant, and the crew transmits the Doctor through it. He arrives aboard the USS Prometheus, an experimental warship that Romulans have seized after killing its crew.
The Doctor must team up with the ship's own Emergency Medical Hologram Mark II, played by Andy Dick, and the two clash over protocol as they try to retake the vessel. They subdue the Romulans with anesthetic gas and, with help from arriving Starfleet ships, drive off the remaining warbirds. Meanwhile the network's owners, the Hirogen, demand that Voyager disconnect. The Doctor returns with word that Starfleet now knows Voyager survives.
