Rinax is the Talaxian moon where the Haakonian Metreon Cascade killed more than 300,000 people, including Neelix's family.
Rinax is a moon of Talax, the homeworld of the Talaxians. During the long war between the Talaxians and the Haakonians, it was struck by the Metreon Cascade, a weapon developed by the scientist Ma'Bor Jetrel that killed more than 300,000 people and left the moon surrounded by a lingering cloud of metreon particles.
In Jetrel, Voyager traveled to Rinax so that Jetrel could gather samples from the cloud, claiming he wanted to cure the metremia afflicting survivors and rescuers. The visit forced Neelix to confront the loss of his family and the guilt of having avoided military service, and revealed Jetrel's real hope of restoring the victims.
