After learning of a friend's death, Archer tells T'Pol about his early test flights and rivalry with fellow pilot A.G. Robinson.
Archer learns that his old friend and rival, A.G. Robinson, has died. As he and T'Pol investigate a dark-matter nebula, Archer tells her about the early warp test program, in which he and Robinson competed to fly an experimental ship.
Robinson was chosen first, and the two took part in an unauthorized flight that broke the warp two barrier. Archer explains how the experience shaped his career and his tension with the Vulcans. He names the nebula after Robinson. The episode was directed by LeVar Burton and written by John Shiban and Chris Black.
