The crew is lured by a distant utopia.
Returning from an away mission, Seven of Nine and Naomi Wildman find the crew elated by an apparent wormhole leading to Earth and by a string of perfect messages from home. Seven, unaffected by whatever has gripped the others, suspects a deception, and her efforts to investigate are blocked at every turn. An alien named Qatai warns her away before her contact with him is cut off.
The wormhole is actually a vast creature that telepathically lures ships inside and digests them. With the crew unconscious, Seven, Naomi and the reactivated Doctor work with Qatai, who has spent years hunting the creature since it killed his family. They force it to release both ships, and Voyager leaves warning beacons behind. W. Morgan Sheppard plays Qatai.
