Janeway and Seven plan to steal Borg technology.
After destroying a Borg probe, Voyager learns of a damaged Borg sphere nearby, and Janeway plans a heist to steal its transwarp coil, a prize that could take years off the trip home. To prepare, Seven of Nine studies the logs of her parents, Magnus and Erin Hansen, who chased the Borg in the Raven, and she relives memories of being assimilated as a child with them.
The crew rehearse the raid on the holodeck and then carry it out. During the mission Seven hears the Collective calling her and refuses to return with the team, so Janeway must leave her behind on the sphere, which heads back into Borg space. There the Borg Queen welcomes her home. The first half of a feature-length fifth-season story, it brings back the Borg Queen, now played by Susanna Thompson, and fills in the story of Seven's family through flashbacks.
