An early Earth starship that vanished in the 2160s and was found wrecked on Altamid a century later, in Star Trek Beyond.
The USS Franklin was an early Earth starship from the period before the Federation and the first Earth ship able to reach warp 4. It disappeared in the 2160s and was not found until the events of Star Trek Beyond, in the Kelvin timeline, more than a century later.
The ship had crashed on the planet Altamid inside the Necro Cloud. Its captain, Balthazar Edison, a former soldier, survived for a very long time by draining the life force of others using alien technology. Embittered by the belief that the Federation had abandoned him, he became the alien warlord Krall.
The young scavenger Jaylah had made the wreck her home, and she led Scotty to it. Kirk's stranded crew restored the old ship and flew it off the planet. They used its radio to broadcast music that disrupted Krall's swarm of drone ships, and then flew the Franklin to Starbase Yorktown to stop his attack.
