A planet threatened by its dying sun, whose society requires every citizen to end their life on reaching the age of sixty.
Kaelon II is the home of the Kaelons, a reserved society that practices the Resolution, a ritual of voluntary death carried out at age sixty to spare the young the burden of caring for the old. The world is also threatened by the slow decay of its star.
In Half a Life, the Enterprise helps the Kaelon scientist Timicin test a method to revive the sun. As his sixtieth birthday approaches, Timicin's romance with Lwaxana Troi leads him to seek asylum, but pressure from his people and his daughter Dara convinces him to return and undergo the Resolution.
