Shuttlecraft 7 of the original Enterprise, stranded on the planet Taurus II.
The Galileo was a Class F shuttlecraft carried aboard the original USS Enterprise, a small boxy craft used for short trips and survey work. It is named after the astronomer Galileo Galilei and was the ship's seventh shuttle.
Its most famous flight came when Spock led a team to study the quasar-like Murasaki 312. The radiation knocked the shuttle off course and forced it down on Taurus II, with McCoy, Scotty and four others aboard. Large primitive creatures attacked the stranded crew, killing two of them, and Spock's strictly logical leadership caused friction with the survivors.
Unable to repair the shuttle fully, the crew took off with barely enough power to reach orbit. Spock jettisoned and ignited the remaining fuel to create a visible flare, which the departing Enterprise spotted. The crew were beamed aboard as the Galileo's orbit decayed and it burned up in the atmosphere.
