A 23rd-century Federation starbase, the site of Kirk's court martial and of the events that led Spock to take Christopher Pike to Talos IV.
Starbase 11 is a Starfleet starbase that served the Federation in the 23rd century. It had a planet-based headquarters, repair facilities and medical care, and it was commanded by senior Starfleet officers such as Commodore Stone and Commodore Mendez in the time of the Enterprise's five-year mission.
The starbase was the site of James T. Kirk's court martial, when he was accused of causing the death of a crew member during an ion storm. Kirk was cleared after his crew showed that the supposed victim was still alive and hiding aboard the Enterprise. Later, the badly injured Christopher Pike was cared for at the starbase until Spock took him, and seized the Enterprise, to return him to the forbidden planet Talos IV, an episode told in The Menagerie.
Starbase 11 is a key setting in two of The Original Series' best-known stories. Its role shows the importance of starbases in supporting Starfleet ships during long missions far from Earth.
