A Starfleet legal officer who had once been romantically involved with Kirk and who prosecuted him at his court martial.
Areel Shaw is a lawyer in Starfleet's legal service stationed at Starbase 11 and a former girlfriend of James Kirk. When Kirk is accused of causing the death of Ben Finney, she warns him that she has been assigned to prosecute the case.
Despite her duty, she points Kirk towards the eccentric defence attorney Samuel T. Cogley. She presents the computer log as evidence against Kirk at the trial, and once Finney is found alive the case collapses. She was played by Joan Marshall.
